Iphones

iPhone software 3.0 has now been released to the world. After all the hype and some people getting really excited about it, I'm quite disappointed with it to be honest. It does have some nice features like MMS but do we really need copy and paste on a phone?Don't get me wrong I love my iPhone but it has some many features the average phone/ iPod user won't use. One really bad thing about it is that the standard email app does not support hotmail accounts. Also the shake to shuffle feature seems wasted on it and can be triggered by accident. It's just as quick to unlock the screen and push skip instead of looking like you trying to jerk off your phone. Then there is the apps that you can download and in my experience there is only a hand full of good ones that I've tried and so many that are just plain crap. The iPhone is a really good phone but it's nowhere near perfect. Mabye the new one will be better but I'm going to have to wait to get my hands on that one for awhile. Even with all the short comings of the 3g model it's still the best phone I've ever had and would highly recommend it to anyone.
So till next time

Halo 2 PC

I recently bought Halo 2 for the pc. I'm not really into pc gaming for a few reasons. One is the controls, trying to use a keyboard and mouse for a shooting game just seems wrong to me. And another is constantly having to upgrade the machine every time a new 5 star game is released. I thought I'd give it a go because I got it for £8 and I just wanted to see if my laptop would run it. It wouldn't run on the max settings but once I dropped the detail down to medium it was fine. I'm using an xbox 360 controller so I instantly knew the buttons. So far I've only done one campaign level and a quick match on the multi player, which I finished top of the score board. It was funny to watch a guy running at me with a sword from miles away when all i had was a battle riffle. I did manage to bag 8 achievements which wasn't bad for an hours work.
As I have previously mentioned that my friend was up from Wales. Well I showed him Peggle on my iPhone and he got quite addicted to it. The first thing he did once got home was download it for the 360. We had a quick mess around on the duel mode which I won 3 games to 1 so I'm happy.
Anyway till next time

Hi-score's retro rewind

I have started playing Mass Effect for the http://www.hi-score.co.uk/ feature Retro-Rewind. We will be playing a segment of the game a week and posting our thoughts on the forum. Now i haven't quite finished this weeks part but i felt i was close before i died. But i have till next Monday to do it so i am not in a rush. I will be blogging about it here and picking the relevant bits to post on the forum.

I just have to say that this game looks amazing and i can forgive the occasional drop in frame rate. The world that it is set in is huge as i found out when trying to find the planet we were supposed to be doing. I even had to ask Strybe (hi-score writer) for help. One thing that did bug me was Captain Anderson's voice, I was sure that i recognised it and it turns out it is the same person that voiced The Arbiter in Halo 2 & 3. I don't know about the other people playing this have noticed that the game really makes you dislike Saren form the start? At the moment I am installing Mass Effect to my hard drive hoping that it will speed up the loading times.

Till next time, and if i haven't broken my controller in frustration.

Things Change

My friend who I used to go out and ride motorbikes with has been up here on holiday for the last 2 weeks. Which has been cool because I miss just hanging out with him some times. The shocking thing was seeing his 2 babies as he is now married with 4 children 2 of which are not his. This has made me realise how long its been since the last time I actually saw him. We speak quite a lot over the xbox, msn or the phone, but its just strange seeing him pushing round a pram. So over the past 2 weekends I've been going to see him. Weather it was swimming or playing air hockey and then just chilling out in the bar playing some pool. We even managed a trip to the zoo with his army of kids which was fun and my girlfriend seemed to really enjoy it there. It was nice to just sit and chat with him about the old days. Like how we used to do stupid things before he moved to Wales.

At work I always have my iPhone playing either music or gaming podcasts. some of my favorites are. . . Rebel FM, Hi-Score The Giant Bombcast, Joystiq, 360Gamercast, Sarcastic Gamer Radio, and Bungie (who do about 3 a year). There are a few more that I'm too lazy to type, I can highly recommend all of these.

As for games I haven't really play anything apart from a quick blast on Gears of War 2 horde mode and Mass Effect. I did the first world on Mass Effect to learn the controls ready for playing through with the www.hi-score.co.uk community. I forgot how amazing this game looks. I hope this time round the story grips me a bit better than last time I tried to play it.

Anyway till next time

Loads to say but no tittle

With all this talk about Halo 3 ODST it has rekindled my interest in the green limited edition 360. I've seen one at a reasonable price and it has me quite tempted as today is payday. If I do decide to get one I hope that I will be able to get hold of the ODST limited edition which comes with a similar controller.

Speaking of controllers I finally got round to subscribing to the Official Xbox Magazine. What does that have to do with a controller I hear you say. Well that particular magazine is offering a Todd McFarlane designed control pad when you subscribe. I am also on the look out for X-Men Origins Wolverine the game for about £20 because based on the demo that game is bloody violent and bloody fun but I don't think its worth £40

I don't know if you have seen that there is a trailer up for the new season of Red vs Blue. If you have never seen any of these then stop reading now and head over to http://www.roosterteeth.com/ and check them out.

Before you think that I spend all my time in front of a monitor or TV. I don't, just most of it. I recently got back from San Francisco taking in some of the sights which was great. We did the usual tourist things like Alcatraz Island, Fisherman's Wharf, China town, i even hung on the side of a cable car as it went up and down the ridiculously steep streets. We all stayed at the Grand Hyatt hotel just off Union Square. The view from the bar 36 floors up was truly breath taking, I'll post a few pictures next time.

Now I must go as I need to get some sleep before work

Till next time

Baby steps

Im new to this blogging thing so please bare with me. I work on nights and the is a rivalry between us and the day shift A-holes. So when 3 of them challenged me and a friend to a "friendly" game of Halo we were more than up for it!

Well today i learnt that i cant have a little fun at work anymore. As people take things to heart and go bitching. (Sad face)

I have an urge to play The Sims 3 when i heard that the bombcast staff were on the exchange and start (yes start) Mass Effect.

I plan on starting Mass Effect with the staff from http://www.hi-score.co.uk/ "game club" style. For some reason i barely played Mass Effect when it was released, It just didnt seem to suck me into the universe like KotOR did.

Another thing that is anoying me is that the Game website wont seem to load up for me over the past few days which is a shame. As i need to pre-order a crap load of games not just for me but for another 3 people at work. I hope we here in merry old England get the collectors edition of Halo 3 ODST and Forza Motorsport 3 but who knows?
Till next time love
Dave
